Carrowkeel is a collection of of megalithic era passage tombs near Castlebaldwin, just south of Sligo in County Sligo. These tombs are a few years old, usually dating to the 2nd millennium B.C. They were created as an entry way and burial ground for those entering the after life. They consist of a dolmen covered with smaller rocks. On the hill we climbed there were 3 fairly large tombs. On the surrounding hills one could see many more, some of them being enormous. The largest being the tomb of Queen Maeve. Queen Maeve's tomb is 55 meters wide and 10 meters high, it is the largest of the cairn's that make up Carrowkeel.
