Blarney Castle located just outside of Cork (or in Gaelic, Corcaigh) is probably Ireland's most famous castle. Blarney Castle is very large. On the grounds of the castle there is a cave and a lake. You are supposed to be able to walk through the cave to get to the lake. It was to dark for us to make it through. Blarney Castle is well known for the Blarney Stone. Kissing the Blarney Stone is supposed to bring you the gift of gab.
Inside Blarney Castle you can see where all the support beams for floors were at one time. The stairways are very narrow as you climb to the top of the castle to kiss the Blarney Stone. You are able to make out where the kitchen once was, you can see the large cooking fireplaces.
The Blarney Stone is no where near the base of the wall. There is a hole cut in the top floor of the castle and the stone sits a few feet below the floor. You have to lie on your back and drop your head through the hole in the castle a few feet to reach the stone. From the position you are looking directly down at the ground a few stories below.
